Learn and practice multiplication facts, division, useful number facts (like 25 x 4 = 100), mental math tricks, and negative numbers (the below-zero Ice House). Builds the automatic recall that every other game in the arcade depends on. (Squares and roots moved to Crystal Caverns, their concept home.)

Numerical fluency is more than memorizing math facts. It is the ability to see relationships between numbers and solve problems quickly and flexibly. When a kid is still pausing on 7 x 8 or counting on fingers, all their mental energy goes to basic calculation, leaving nothing for the actual concept they are trying to learn. Strong number sense is the foundation every other math skill is built on.

ORDER UP!

ORDER OF OPERATIONS · PEMDAS

Teaches which operations come first and why, from parentheses through equal-rank pairs (multiplication/division, addition/subtraction). Kids evaluate real multi-step expressions by picking the right move at each step. Also includes a quick negative numbers refresher as cards below zero (the full lessons live in Number Forge).

Every multi-step math problem from here on depends on doing operations in the right order. Kids who memorize "PEMDAS" as a word but don't understand why multiplication comes before addition often freeze when expressions get longer. This game teaches kids to read an expression like a recipe, building genuine understanding of structure instead of rote rules.

SLIME LAB KEY SKILL

FRACTIONS · RATIOS · PERCENTS

Covers fraction of a number, equivalent fractions, comparing, fraction operations (12 × 3/4, improper fractions, mixed numbers), ratios and unit rates, and percents. Slimes make fractions physical: cut one into 4 parts and take 3, and you SEE 3/4 wobble.

An expert panel convened by the U.S. Department of Education, drawing on a survey of 743 Algebra I teachers, identified fractions as the single foundation students most lack for algebra. Separately, a longitudinal study found that a child's fraction knowledge at age 10 predicts their algebra performance at age 16, over and above IQ and family background (Siegler et al., 2012). This is the make-or-break skill.

EQUATION PIRATES

SOLVING EQUATIONS · INVERSE OPERATIONS · VARIABLES

Solve one-step and two-step equations by choosing each inverse operation and watching both sides of the balance change. Covers addition/subtraction inverses, multiplication/division inverses, combining like terms, and equations with negative solutions; the variable is not always x, so kids learn the letter is just a name for the unknown.

Algebra is not about "move it to the other side." It is about understanding that an equation is a balance, and every operation you apply has to keep it balanced. Kids who learn to pick each step and see the result on both sides build real algebraic thinking, not just answer-getting tricks that break down with harder problems.

SLOPE QUEST

SLOPE · RISE OVER RUN · y = mx + b

Build ramps in a block world to discover rise over run, then move to plotting points, reading positive, negative, and zero slopes, and writing equations in slope-intercept form.

Slope is most kids' first encounter with rate of change, the idea that one quantity depends on another. It is also the first concept of calculus, years before anyone calls it that. It shows up again in science (speed), economics (cost per unit), and every graph they will ever read. Building physical intuition for rise-over-run before the formula makes the abstraction stick instead of feeling arbitrary.

GEOMETRY · AREA · VOLUME · ANGLES

Covers area of rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids, circles (circumference and area), volume and surface area of boxes, angle rules (the 180° family), similar triangles and scale factors, and transformations (reflect, rotate, translate).

Geometry is where math becomes visual. Understanding area and similarity gives kids the spatial reasoning that underpins everything from reading blueprints to understanding why slope works the way it does. It is also the branch of math that most connects to the physical world kids can see and touch.

Mine crystals by recognizing perfect squares, estimating square roots, applying exponent rules, and simplifying radicals by pulling out perfect-square factors.

Perfect squares are the building blocks for roots, exponents, and eventually quadratics. Kids who can instantly recognize that 144 = 12 squared or estimate the square root of 50 as about 7.07 have a huge advantage when these numbers show up inside harder problems, and they will, constantly, from 7th grade onward.

PROBABILITY · ODDS · COMPOUND EVENTS

Run a loot-box tycoon by calculating basic probability, odds, compound events (with and without replacement), and expected value across marbles, spinners, and card draws.

Probability is the math of decisions. Every time a kid asks "what are the chances?" they are doing probability. Understanding odds and expected value builds quantitative reasoning that applies to science experiments, risk, and everyday choices. It is also one of the most under-practiced topics in elementary and middle school math.
